Ian N. Morrison Award for Advanced Studies in Crop Protection
An endowment fund has been established at the University of Manitoba as a memorial tribute to Dr. Ian N. Morrison (1947-2006). The purpose of the award is to provide support for graduate students in the Department of Plant Science. The Manitoba Scholarship and Bursary Initiative has made a contribution to the fund. The scholarship, valued at the available annual interest from the fund up to a maximum value of the tuition for the first year of graduate studies, will be offered to one or more graduate students who:

(1) have completed the requirements for a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural and Food Science;

(2) have demonstrated academic excellence with a minimum degree grade point average of 3.5 in their last 60 credit hours of study;

(3) have enrolled as a full-time student in the Faculty of Graduate Studies at the University of Manitoba and undertake a graduate program in the Department of Plant Science investigating an aspect of crop protection.

Applications must be submitted to the Head of the Department of Plant Science by the designated deadline date and must include two letters of recommendation from academic staff.

Preference may be given, in order of priority, to: (a) a student entering or in the second year of the graduate program and (b) to a student whose project is related to the advancement of knowledge on the biology and/or management of weeds.

The Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies (or designate) will ask the Head of the Department of Plant Science to name the selection committee for this award.

The Board of Governors of the University of Manitoba has the right to modify the terms of this award if, because of changed conditions, it becomes necessary to do so. Such modification shall conform as closely as possible to the expressed intention of the donor in establishing the award.
