Award Information
Albert C. and Morag J. Apostle Scholarship
Mr. Albert C. Apostle (B.A. / 95) and his wife, Morag J. Apostle (B.A. from University of Winnipeg, 1992) have established an endowment fund at the University of Manitoba, with an additional contribution from the Manitoba Scholarship and Bursary Initiative. Mr. Apostle retired from the Winnipeg Police force in 2000, after serving 37 years on the force. Mrs. Apostle has spent over 30 years breeding Rhodesian Ridgebacks and she recognizes the essential qualities of compassion, natural ability, and talent with animals that must be present in a good veterinarian. Mr. and Mrs. Apostle have established this scholarship in honour of the Rhodesian Ridgebacks of Stalkmoor Kennels (Permanently Registered) and also to recognize the accomplishments of University of Manitoba students who go on to study Veterinary Medicine at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan.

Annually (beginning with the year 2002), a scholarship valued at the available annual income from the fund shall be offered to the student who:

(1) has completed at least two years of study at the University of Manitoba;

(2) has achieved a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0;

(3) has been ranked second among the University of Manitoba students admitted to the Western College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan in that year;

(4) is accepted to and enrols in the first year of study at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan.

The University of Manitoba shall obtain a ranked list of University of Manitoba students who have been admitted to the College each fall. The University of Manitoba will then send a cheque for the scholarship winner directly to the College. The first charge against the scholarship will be the recipient’s outstanding tuition fees for the academic session in question. If the recipient has paid his/her fees in full for the complete first academic year of study at the College at the time of receipt of the scholarship, the recipient will receive a cheque from the College to aid with other academic expenses. Otherwise, the scholarship will be applied to tuition fees outstanding for this first academic year in question.

The award recipient cannot hold both this scholarship and any other award administered by the University of Manitoba in the year that he/she enters the University of Saskatchewan.

The selection committee shall be named by the Director of Enrolment Services.
