Award Information
Norval C. Young Graduate Fellowship in Animal Science
In honour of Norval C. Young (BSC/50, M.Sc./55), former president of Feed Rite Ltd. and long time friend and generous supporter of the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences, a fund of $50,000 (including matching funds) has been established for the purpose of providing an annual graduate fellowship in animal nutrition. The Manitoba Scholarship and Bursary Initiative also made a contribution to this fund.

The available annual interest* generated each year will be used as a "top-up award" for the graduate student in animal nutrition who ranks highest among those students in Animal Science receiving a University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowship (UMGF). Preference will be given to an M.Sc. student. The Young Fellowship may be held for two years (M.Sc.) or three years (Ph.D.), when offered as a "top-up" award to a UMGF recipient. If, in any year, no candidate eligible for the Young Fellowship is successful in the UMGF competition, the Young Fellowship may be offered as a "stand-alone" award for one year only to the top-ranked UMGF applicant, or to any other student the selection committee considers a worthy recipient.

The selection committee shall be the Awards Committee of the Department of Animal Science in consultation with the Dean (or designate) of the Faculty of Graduate Studies.
