Jim Hicks Bursary
In memory of James D. (Jim) Hicks, family, friends, and colleagues have established an endowment fund at the University of Manitoba. In honour of Him, who earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Winnipeg and subsequently pursued a career as a professional agronomist, soil specialist, and manager of an environmental consulting firms, the fund will be used to offer bursaries to students pursuing a degree in a related discipline. In the 2012-2013 academic year, one bursary valued at $500 will be offered. As of the 2013-2014 academic year, one bursary valued at $1,000 will be offered. Each year, a bursary will be offered to an undergraduate student who:

(1) has completed at least one year of full-time study (minimum 24 credit hours) at the University of Manitoba;

(2) in the next ensuing academic session, is enrolled in a minimum of 24 credit hours in one of the following faculties:
(i) Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences, pursuing a degree in the areas of Agroecology, Soil Sciences, or Agronomy.
(ii) Calyton H. Riddell Faculty of Environment, Earth and Resources, pursuing a degree in the areas of Environmental Science or Environmental Studies; or
(iii) Faculty of Science, pursuing a degree program in the theme areas delivered by the Department of Biological Sciences;

(3) has achieved a minimum degree grade point averages of 2.5;

(4) has demonstrated financial need on the standard University of Manitoba bursary application form.

The selection committee will be named by the Director of Financial Aid and Awards (or designate).
