Biographical Information:
Lara was born and educated in Winnipeg. She received her degree in Human Ecology, in Foods and Nutrition, in 1997. Lara’s love and loyalty to family and friends were boundless, but her sense of adventure drew her to the west coast where she died accidentally in April 1999. Throughout her short life, Lara showed great empathy and commitment to people in need and to all God’s creatures. She quietly became involved when she felt she could help. This included working with non-profit groups such as McBeth House Centre for Seniors and the Manitoba Schizophrenia Society. After graduating, a goal she did not have time to achieve was to work with a community-based or self-help program. This award, ‘Lara’s Legacy’, fosters the well-being of those for whom she cared.
