Biographical Information
Rylan Laudin (Dip.Agric./2016) grew up on the family farm by Brunkild, Manitoba, always helping, and eventually farming full time with his Dad on the farm. Rylan graduated with a dual diploma 2010 from Sanford Collegiate and Winnipeg South Technical College in Welding. He began farming a quarter section in 2010, and worked winters at Brett Young Seeds and Penner Oil. He travelled to Australia in September 2012 on the Ag Venture Exchange Program where he worked on a large multi-family farm, coming back in time for seeding that spring 2013. Rylan attended the University of Manitoba for two years and completed his Diploma in Agriculture in 2016 and was chosen by his classmates as Valedictorian. Rylan was a positive and well-respected classmate and student and a proud supporter of the School of Agriculture. His good character and sense of humour made him well liked by all who met him. Rylan was a farmer and a friend. He had great passion for both and was keenly aware of his role as a young spokesperson for the Ag industry. Rylan was looking forward to farming as a full partner with his parents, increasing his land base by adding 80 acres of alfalfa seed production and leafcutter bees. He embraced the knowledge, technology and tools that could make the farm better. He embraced his family and friends with that same enthusiasm and never met a stranger, always left a friend. His loss in May 2016 at age 23 was profoundly felt by all who knew him and the immediate outpouring of love and support by his fellow students led to the establishment of this Memorial Award.
